DESIGN DISTRICT

In September 2020, to coincide with the launch of Design London, Greenwich Peninsula will welcome London’s first purpose-built Design District which will bring 1,800 creatives together. A new type of London is being created specifically for the creative community. A mixture of architectural voices, open house workshops and design lovers will create an undeniable buzz of activity. The key to the Design District’s success will lie in its ability to unite creative talent and inspire collaboration in order to drive the city forward.

Home to 1,800 creatives

A new district dedicated to creativity, bringing together 1,800 creatives from all industries. Affordable rents, flexible spaces, a place for ideas to breathe and grow. Clean desk space, dirty workshops, collaborative areas. Car-free winding lanes filled with the buzz of activity.

Distinct architecture

16 front doors to 16 very different buildings. United by a landscape that celebrates openness and social interaction. 8 award-winning architects were each given a “sugar cube” to design. Inspired by old photographs and construction sites, dinner tables and the diversity of Londoners. The result is a riot of unexpected contrasts.

The market hall

Embedded in the heart of the Design District, the market hall welcomes all of London. Open to the sky and street by day. A glowing hub by night. Housed within a transparent yellow-floored caterpillar, it’s the focal point for the neighbourhood. At street-level, stalls serve food from around the world and creatives show their wares. Above, sit within the tree canopy to eat and people-watch.

Open workshops

Ground floor open workshops provide a glimpse of creative processes. Through picture windows see making spill out onto working courtyards. Precision hand-craft. The noise and dirt of heavy machinery. Works in progress. A rare insight into artists’ lives. An exhilarating, glorious mess.

Rooftops

Play sports on the rooftop multi-sports court. Open to the public at any time, all year round. This playful addition to the skyline doubles as a venue for film screenings and events. With views over the market hall and main square, and glimpses of the river wrapping the rest of the Peninsula.

Well connected

A new type of London created specifically for the creative community.

Located on Greenwich Peninsula and 1 minute's walk to North Greenwich tube station. With links to central and East London in 15 minutes or less, you can spend less time commuting and more time doing what you do best.
